as you may know i run one or two camping weekends i.e. rallies .
there seems more asking if they could bring there camper van along ,
well i am OLD SCHOOL i don't want to upset anyone but to me a bike rally is exactly that !!!!
i hope that we can keep this type of event as it should be ,
the only concession is illness ,,,, i know there are a few coming to the events for the off road and have to be trailer there bikes,, i can except that no problem
just wonder what everyone,s thoughts

Why shouldn't they? The evenings around the fire don't get affected by their choice of accommodation, and if they join the ride outs then they end up as cold and wet as anyone else? Not sure why you or anyone else has a problem with it....

As we get older we'll all be getting them, can't see an issue
I hate fucking tents

We buy things we don't need
With money we don't have
To impress people we don't even like

I'm with you John. I'm glad you're trying to arrest this in it's infancy.
The Goldwing Club used have a tent filled field, now they want hard standing and enough room to turn their 6 wheel palaces and box van trailers around.

A very similar question was raised relating to people attending another "club" bike rally.
At the end of the day does it really matter. We all love our hobby and bikes, if somebody want's to be sure of a nice comfortable bed and cooking up some decent grub, good luck to them. If I'm honest, I would be jealous as hell on a cold wet and windy night.

I don't think Devon John is talking about people who are going to be going out for off-road rideouts. In which case I agree...unless someone has an injury or disability etc. that stops them riding their bike there a bike rally should only be for bikes. There should at least be a little bit of hardship to being an adventurous bike rider!Gedge wrote:Why shouldn't they? Re: camper vans at bike rally ????
i can see where you're coming from john and as you say it's a bike rally, but there is quite a few of us that are let's say getting on a bit but would still love to join in,so it would be a shame if they couldn't join in because they where not up to the camping and maybe the ride to the rally site.so i say the more the merrier and you can rest asure if your stuck for a tin opener our friends in the camper vans will have one.at the end of the day we all love bikes.by the way john, i was on the ecky thump this year cracking rally and a brilliant of road ride.keep up the good work.cheers tony.

I tend to agree, bollocks to freezing my nuts off under a bit of fabric when a nice cosy van/camper can be used instead. lets face it not many of us can afford a race truck or winnebago so it's not that luxurious, just a bit more comfy.daytona-supersport wrote:+1Gedge wrote:Why shouldn't they? Re: camper vans at bike rally ????
I with you John. i recently went to the Bol d'Or endurance race in the south of Fance near Toulon. I last went in 1984 then 89. I was shocked to find large part of the campsite cordonned off with bunting tape aroundhuge campervans and a few bikes usually with a big sign telling which bike club they were.
To make mattes worse because the bikes didn't need to ride home many of them spent the entire night holding their bike on the rev limiter whilst flicking the kill switch and/or spraying easy start into the air filter so as to encorage huge flames from the exhaust. This seemed to attract large crowds but several bikes exploded thankfully - so Saturday night was a bit quieter than Friday.
I've always ridden to an event carrying all my own gear which seems to me to be the point of the whole thing.
