First ever ride on a R1200GS...flabbergasted!

Post by Scott_rider »

At the weekend I had my first ever ride on a BMW R1200GS My mate has just bought one, an '08 twin spark.

I was flabbergasted! :silly: In no particular order, my comments after years of sports bike and enduro bike riding are:

Comfort = absolutely superb

Weight = disappears when you get on the move

Handling = feels like a small 250 around town (thumbs)

Suspension = a magic carpet ride quality (thumbs)

Gearbox = super smooth and long-legged

Engine = vibey then smooth and fairly grunty

I expected to hate it. But I didn't. I can see why they are so popular. The only thing that would put me off owning one was the lack of brute power compared to an inline four that I'm used to. Just thought I'd share this with you...GS lovers, and GS haters alike! :laugh:

His one has only done 7k miles.
Seriously, when I put it in first gear I had to check the digital display to make sure it was in gear because it made no noise, no shunt, nothing.

p.s...forgot, I didn't like the bars as they were too wide. And the screen shook at speed which was a bit of a distraction.

That's alright then. (thumbs) Otherwise you might have started a new trend with everybody wanting one. :dry:

So, a possible convert :evil:

Go ahead, take the plunge and buy one, you wont regret it, regardless of which model of Gs you buy (thumbs)

I went from a CBR1000 to a Gs and haven't looked back.

I just love mine :woohoo:
