GSA800 manufacture's warranty.

Post by SteveW »

I was a little surprised to learn that although my GSA is still within its manufacture's warranty, it will not be covered if I ride it outside of Europe.....specifically North America where I am shipping it to for 8 weeks next year.
I guess BMW North America is a different company?

That seems strange. I'd be asking BMW over here if it was a case of simply no warranty or whether they will reimburse you for any costs incurred for warranty work performed by a BMW dealer while you're away.

If they say no warranty you've just got to ask what the A stands for in the model designation

I think most products are only covered by the manufacturer's warranty in the original countries that they are supplied in. I presume the EU in this case. Apple products are not covered worldwide either, not that that helps, but it's not unique to BMW.

Might be worth doing some research into that. I seem to recall cases on ADV about it

The only research I did was to ask at the BMW dealer, the bad news was clearly outlined in the small print on a product brochure.
I guess there must be some chance of getting the costs of any parts reimbursed upon returning to the UK?

Only thing to check is the head bearings once a week or more often if you're doing a bit of off road riding.
