The shops were and are still good as gold, but these days the shelves are a bit bare and the product quality/vfm just isn't there anymore.
I went in the Southampton branch during a sale 2 months ago to buy a waterproof onesie, and the only one in the shop was a XS, what use is that? (Especially since their sizing has shrunk over the last few years, from being made in Vietnam or pakistan) So I then took the risk of ordering a XXXL online, which then took 5 weeks to arrive.

Bonuses, commission, holidays etc might not get paid though.

Let's hope no one tries to resurrect the corpse again.

The government covers about £120 of the employees salary - or at least it did the last time I was in their position many moons ago

Still puts the employees in a awful position, imagine having to float 2 months of bills at least, until god knows when they'll get paid.

It's sad to see the industry dying, but I can't help but think a lot of it is just the killing off of greedy business and with any luck will give someone the opportunity to fill the gaps with more local orientated business

Don't think Heine Gerick were a "greedy business". When they were in good shape they gave good value for the money.
Rent, rates & dedicated staffing costs just can't be suported by a very niche business anymore.
High street stores have come down to Pile em high sell em cheap, Moneylenders, Gambling emporiums & Pound Stores.
Motorcycle clothing has to go into the general motorcycle dealers & online.
Don't seem to be any "Cheese Shops" either :whistle:

Yeah agreed that HG wasn't greedy, just an unsustainable business model, though it's the parent company that has caused this not just HG's business model, they are the victim of a bigger collapse.

If someone can start up an online business that completely cracks the issue of sending stuff back, and markets that service strongly, then they'll succeed. ie: no quibble policy, courier will pick up the return at no cost to you, shop will restock at no cost to you, and helmets can be returned so long as they haven't been worn on the road and have the tags and visor plastics still on. The womans clothing catalogues have survived by doing this. They will have more products kept by happy customers, who wouldn't have bought online because they are unsure of suitability or fit, than they would have products returned by the customers who already buy online today. It's the main barrier which prevents people buying clothing online, they want to see touch, feel and try on. Take that problem away, but keep the online price and it'll work.
