Cheers Ian. That's one of those classic songs that you hear so often (on adverts etc) that you don't often stop to listen to it all properly. I'm not at all sure about that awful honkeytonk piano middle section though...

And now for something completely different. Ian Curtis at his best, and most miserable. Can't believe it's 40 years ago he left us. IMO Joy Division was the best of the post-punk bands and the one to reach for when you want to sink into a dark pit for a while...

Huge fan of Kirsty MacColl.. Saw her at Finsbury Park festivaI with The Pogues / Dubliners / Madness etc and I was at the gig at the Palladium (~2000 I think) where she supported Ian Dury and the Blockheads. A fantastic night of great music, and the atmosphere was superb - as at all Blockhead gigs. Ian D was sipping from a morphine bottle after every song. It was his last major gig. And Kirsty was dead within 6 months too. Also, in one of the theatre boxes overlooking the stage was Mo Mowlam, key to the Good Friday Agreement, and she succumbed to cancer shortly afterwards too...
