So what do you do to put food on the table and rubber on the bike? For the past 16 years I've been publishing magazines; Adventure Travel and more recently Adventure Bike Rider.
In the past I've;
Passed my accountacy exams - never worked as an accountant though.
Hotel handy man - great fun and a few stories to tell
Bar work - ditto hotel handy man
Quality control inspector at a shoe factory - stroking womens shoes/boots all day :blink:
Brickies labourer - hardest physical work I've ever done, back in the days when it was hods and ladders.
Sales of office equipment, industrial machinery, industrial property - good money but far from life enhancing.
Mountain/travel guide - a great job but the responsibility takes a lot of the fun out of it.
How do you earn a crust?
Re: How do you earn a crust?
Sounds like you've had a varied life Alun!
I'm only 21 years of age, and don't really put food on the table for anyone except my self really, my current job being the best so far.. Previous jobs are;
-Summer temp job following secondary school and finished before college working in a cafe. Met SWMBO there at the age of 16.
- Working in a branch of subway during college to earn my keep and keep the motorbike running. Dealt with drunks working until 3am fridays and saturday evenings!
-Working in a branch of Halfords as auto parts manager. I HATE CUSTOMER SERVICE! At least now I understand the difficulties people face in dealing with customers day in- day out.
Now I currently work in a herb/spice factory as a quality assurance technician. If you're going to ask what spice girl I am, it'll be chubby spice! (But I'm a guy ofc).
There's a lot of pressure in my current job, accuracy is key as it can affect food safety/traceability if a task is completed incorrectly. At least theres no customers to serve - I'm happy!

My official title is Marketing Supervisor but I'm actually a graphic designer. I work for a company called Bickers in Suffolk who import and distibute motorcycle parts and accessories including Maxxis tyres, Motorex oils and DID chains.
I've been a graphic designer for about 20 years however, I started out as a butcher before moving on to architecture and then to graphic design with plenty of other stuff in between such as welding, packaging, sugar bagging, litter picking and driving.

I'm a Paramedic based in Solihull although I can end up anywhere by the end of a shift !!!!!
I was on the motorcycle responce unit for a couple of years but riding round Birmingham city centre day after day can get very boring.
Before that I've been in the RAF, at Uni, a pub manager and an electricians mate.
Been a Para for 15 yrs now so I must like something about it :unsure:

Graphic designer past and present.
Straight after leaving college I did once work for Wilf Green in Sheffield, assembling Simson 50cc bikes before I got my first proper job. My first road bike was a Simson. Rattly little thing!!

Qualified rocket scientist, but since the UK space program consists of blocks of cheese on balloons.. I work in IT, doing web and database stuff. With some extra-curricular photography and web design on the side. It puts petrol in the tank, but would prefer a job that gets me out and about a lot more.
