ELEPHANT RALLY 2011
Thinking of going to Elephant Rally, anyone else going or have you been? Any tips, past experiences, drunken tales would be great, hoping to take sidecar combo, may stand a chance at staying on. :silly: and not on my head.

There's a good chance I'll be heading over for this rally. Not been before but understand it's going to be a little on the chilly side.
Maybe you could try out the new 'Events' feature Jim - check out the right hand column of this page and post up the Elephant Rally as an 'event'. We may get a few members to posse up for the ride over.

Done it four times in the distant past and keep thinking I should go again, but I usually think this in the summer and it never seems such a good idea in January.
You should be ok on an outfit, it's the likelyhood of ending up in a ditch (which I've done twice) en route that concentrates the mind. It's a bit of a bike wrecker as well. A week covered in salt doesn't do the cosmetics much good.
For a solo the best bet is a small trail bike with lots of plastic but it can be a bit of slog down the autobahns on them and they don't have much electrical output for stuff like heated jackets.

I did an 'Elephant' in the early 80's held at the Salzburgring, definately an experience and an event that you must attend at least once in your biking lifetime, along with a Dragon rally and Stella Alpina.

The dragon rally, Oh yes!
If the Elephant rally = snow, the Dragon rally = mud. A kind of bikers version of Glastonbury!
Guess which pic was taken where:

Good luck with your trip jim, your a brave man,it will be a great adventure..i havent been..and never will..too bloody cold for me..a combo would be a good idea,:P you should (hopefully at least)be able to keep upright..and take as much heated clothing as you can afford to avoid hypothermia
Anyone thats attends is a hero in my book, whether they have travelled 10Kms to get there or 1500..they can say they have really achieved something,
