I had a crf230f .. good bike and i would have one again.
as mentioned, get the rear disc version .. the brake shoes can seize as you travel and press the lever ... seen it happen and also to me.
On mine i lowered the suspension by making the rear soft ... big mistake .. but you tall so no need.

liked the air cooled thing .. 113 kg .. easy to ride and enough power to go anywhere .. if not like an enduro bike.

basic, simple, good. ... may be a bit small for u tho???

Hah! This is what's happening - there are bikes around, but paying for one without being anywhere near it just feels far too risky :(
I'm going to have to find one soon though, as people _keep_ coming up with bikes I've never heard of that look like they'll do the job

surely you are not in lockdown at Builth .. A40 to Gloucester, then Exeter?

or perhaps you are not able to travel atm?

the Honda xr250 and xr400 are highly respected as trail bikes, air cooled, old school, easier to work on, reliable, powerful and competent, but rare to see for sale, now, especially the 250, considered the better of the 2.

personally, i would go for a more modern bike with FI, upside down forks, light weight, for me a low seat height, reliable quiet 4 stroke .... so i have started saving .. got £20 saved already,
in just the first year lol

what put me off the crf250L was the high weight, highish seat, poor suspension .. the rest hit the mark 8-)

there are some interesting 125's and 200's about too .. see Phil's TW ??

A mate has an XR 250 he has only one arm and loves it as a trailbike simple old school light trailbike it is and old Honda reliability and quality. Limitations besides the obvious are basic electrical system no battery, kicker, the price for low weight and basic.

What about a Fantic Casa 250 or AJP PR5? Full size, modern suspension but a road bike based engine so maybe not as wild as the FE?

C90?
Lightweight, cheap, very easy on the throttle (read practically non-existent 😂)
You can take it anywhere you fancy.... smaller and nadgery the better
And you could probably get one and keep your current bike. Win all round!!

Maybe a plus point regarding a Beta Alp 200 if Steve Pain is still the main dealer for spares in Llandod?

I've got a Serow and it fits me great being low as I'm only 5'4". I'd have thought at 6'1 it would be a bit low for you. It's a great little bike but last trail bike I had was a two stroke and I take bad with the 4 stroke
