For splitting use a small disc grinder or dremel

For riveting learn to user a hammer as you may need to do it on the side of a trail

I'd prefer to do it properly rather than bodge it or use a split link, and keep my split link for repairs. Cheers for the offer stormforce will keep it in mind. Russ I've got the link that came with the 520 chain. Won't realistically be doing it this weekend as got to install my new rad

okay Chris..when I`m back and hopefully the cast is off on Monday the 24th sept means I can ride the bike again so could pop over the following weekend to give you a lift etc..

I just use a hand file to well file the soft rivet off flush on old chain and then push the pins through..

The chain tool has the adapter to push the new plate on over the x rings and then turn it round and squash the soft rivet head...normally 30-40 mins from start to finish  ..

send me a email or pm if thats okay..

You can get a good one for £30-£40 and handy to have as you never know when you might need one in the future or out on a ride.
Took mine with me on a trip to France and used it to repair and refit my chain.
