I want a bit of extra space for a trip and currently have Magadan throwovers ans add an Oxford drybag when required but that is quite bulky.

I wondered what more compact tailpacks were worth looking at in your experience?

I use a Crane Fishing bag which I got from Aldi. Non in stock at the moment but have a look at this ebay link > https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw ... g&_sacat=0 and you'll get an idea.

Have a look at the Lomo stuff. Lots of people on forum rate them, well priced too.

Kriega all the way, I've never had one leak yet and they do a good range of sizes.

Can you combine any of these with a detachable backpack for the essentials on a ferry etc?

Dai I do have some morals and standards you know, they may be low, but I still have them

Also the rear racks on the Africa Twin are known for snapping the subframe if you put much more than a chockalate orange on there, especially on Moroccan rocks/whoops, it's bad enough having the Magadans flapping and wacking you in the elbows without a topboxbowlingball having you in the back of the head!

I used the tank bag adapter so had it as a tank bag also had one as tail pack.
I found an unused shoulder strap from one of my crane (Aldi) bags and clipped it on to one to use to carry the essential bits when on the ferry.

Which Oxford drybag do you have? The backpack type?

I use an Oxford 50. You’ll need tie down straps. I don’t find it bulky on the bike at all, if anything I’d probably get something bigger. It’s my first tail pack so I didn’t want something too bulky. Now I’ve ridden with it, like I say, I’d probably just go bigger. As long as you pack heavy stuff central and pack out the sides evenly, it makes no difference. Fine for filtering etc too. If that’s the drybag you’re saying you have already, I know they do a 30L version. Comes with a shoulder strap and is more compact, but at 30L, I’d probably just use a large tank bag, as it’s less messing around.

I can strap my Course backpack right on it, which so far, has been waterproof too. I saw it on eBay for £25, so Googled it, and they were on XL moto for a tenner…looks like they still are: https://www.xlmoto.co.uk/course-slipstr ... t-backpack
