Jet Boil question...

Could anyone with a Jetboil possibly assist, and tell me the Total weight of a full 100g canister of gas please? It might be on a can, maybe not...

Just called Jetboil, they say a 100g can is 94g empty and a 230g is 126g empty.


So my rough calcs say a new 100g can of fuel is a total of 194g.

Wanting the figure to assess gas left in a canister and to allow 2-3 goes of refilling from cheap butane canisters

a quick google of "100g gas canister" will answer that for you in about 0.000001 of a second. 113g.

So that is two different figures...!

I think I'll have ask the lad to pick a new one up and weigh it myself!! :whistle:

100g canister: 100g fuel; gross weight 194g; empty weight 94g (51.5% fuel by weight)
230g canister: 230g fuel; gross weight 356g; empty weight 126g (64.6% fuel by weight)
450g canister: 450g fuel; gross weight 645g; empty weight 195g (69.8% fuel by weight)

Just weighed a new "100g" snow peak giga power- 164g (marked as net weight 110g)
Dont think there will be much standard between manufacturerers

You can put the canister in water and how it floats will show how much gas (roughly). Also if you are rehydrating food used a cook pouch it means you only use gas to bring to the boil and no simmering

This particular requirement is for No.3 sprog, my son. He uses the Jetboil on exercise/in the field when playing Soldiers, and needs to be sure he has enough gas for a weekend or whatever. Usually reheating Tat packs and brewing up!!

Also, jetboil fuel is silly money in the 100g canisters, so I've bought a widget to allow them to be refilled a few times from a cheapie 4 for a fiver 220g butane canisters!
