Best alternative to fresh milk?

Post by Andyman506 »

In seven weeks and a day (not that I'm counting) I'm off on a three week tour of Scandinavia, camping most of the way. I'm a coffee addict and need my caffeine fix in the mornings. I'd be interested to know what everyone else uses to whiten their coffee. I've yet to find a powder that comes close to fresh milk. It's a small but important detail!

I have always just taken Nescafe 3 in 1 or 2 in 1 if you don,t take sugar. They are easy to carry and taste fine. It cuts down on the amount you need to carry.

I'm with you on powder, it just tastes like chalk.

What about UHT? Keep it in a water or coke bottle after it's open.

Milk doesn't add flavour to coffee really IMO it's really only a cooling agent. A bit like tea.
Do a test. Make your tea and or coffee in one of those travel mugs with a lid. Drink it out of those for a couple of days/week and you'll get used to it. Plus not taking the milk substitute will leave room for more beer (thumbs)

On my camping trip to Scandinavia last summer, I took two tubes of Nestle condensed milk, which comes ready sweetened. Worked for me, light and compact. Just the ticket.

Tesco, but only the larger ones. It is worth serching out if you are looking for fresh milk. Freeze dried UHT etc are no where near this stuff!
