Yes I mailed you back (thumbs)

For the benefit of anyone else, the fray is where a buckle should be which holds a compression strap. The strap gores right through/around the outer poket to hold the lower tube pocket tight.

Ok, I'm looking at the Backcountry 35 litre panniers as an alternative to alloy panniers on my GSA. I'm off to the States in September so I might pick a set up then.
