I just take my "prepared for everything" husband travelling with me, so I don't have to worry about a thing, as well as fixing my bike he even supplies me with beer and gives me a good massage after each days riding B)

Baccy tin and a fag lighter these solve pretty much anything (or at least makes it more bearable)

Experience!

Without experience you can't use the puncture kit, fit the spare parts you carry or avoid getting ripped off in the many foreign countries you'll visit.

It's not really a 'bit of kit' but essential nonetheless.

Of course, you could say that with experience your trip will be less of an adventure but I think most people would prefer to have the benefit of experience when trying to fix a puncture at the roadside, in the dark, in the rain. :(

Top box or tank bag to carry everything else in.

Leatherman and a few tools,
Lucozade bottle of engine oil (I'm waiting for the day that someone steals a glug of it  )
Puncture kit,
Sunglasses,
Waterproofs,
Duct tape and zip ties,
Visor cleaner,
Spare gloves,
Bottle of pop/water,
Flask and sarnies!
