Choosing safest jacket
Hi adventurers,
I am beginner rider and I am looking to buy my first motorcycle. I decided it will be middleweight adventure motorcycle, Yamaha XT660Z Tenere. Now, I am looking for decent equipment (textile jacket and pants). In the sea of choices, I am looking for the safest equipment (especially abrasion resistant) so I would be thankful if you help me choose between (or rank a few) those jackets below. Since jacket is main part of equipment, I will probably buy compatible pants from same manufacturer. Jacket should be for 3 season (spring, summer and fall). The price range for jacket would be 200-400 EUR, and my choice is limited to those locally available ones:
ALPINESTARS:

Re: Choosing safest jacket
Choosing a jacket.
1) Does it fit and is it comfortable? Yes/No
2) Is it waterproof and does it keep you warm/cool? Yes/No
3) How abraision resistant is it? Ride so as to hopefully never to find out.
4) Can I afford it? Yes/No
Always worked for me, so far. Enjoy and good luck choosing.

Re: Choosing safest jacket
Thanks for answers guys.
@Spike941 and @DavidS of course I will consider those points while buying. But before going to shop, my top priority is to narrow the choice to few safest jackets. The problem is that I didn’t find any sort of safety tests on the internet. Such tests would really help me, so I am here asking you.
@shanered6 Icon Raiden jacket is considered as best-buy among reviews and forums. Luckily, I found one in local shop for 280 EUR so I will definitely go try it. I am wondering how resistant it is, comparing it with some top textile jackets on market (let’s say Klim Apex Air). Is it worth to give 200 EUR more for https://www.xlmoto.eu/klim-apex-air-jacket-grey#?p or will Raiden do same job?

Re: Choosing safest jacket
Halverssons have a good reputation for safety features. However, I don't think they still do their multi layer safety system jacket. I've had a couple of their jackets, both excellent, one pair of trousers, excellent, three pairs of gloves, two excellent, one ok. I also use a Klim Badlands jacket which is great, especially when it's warm. Off road I tend to wear Forcefield soft armour plus any old jacket over the top for abrasion resistance. However, this is just too warm in the heat so I use the Badlands. I got the Klim 2nd hand due to the eye watering cost. If it wears out I'll be happy getting a new one, although I'll still wince at the price.
Just along for the ride.

Re: Choosing safest jacket
If you have the money, the best are Klim or Rukka.
Saying that, there are lots of very good quality garments made by other companies.
Make sure you get a waterproof shell rather than a waterproof liner. With the waterproof shell, the outer repels the water. With a liner, the shell soaks up water and becomes sodden, whilst the liner stops you from getting wet. This makes the jacket heavy and takes ages to dry out.

Re: Choosing safest jacket
Hi, guys.
A week ago I finally decided to give all my savings and buy Klim Apex Air jacket and pants on xlmoto.eu. After going to checkout I realize that they haven’t shipping to my country ☹ so I write off Klim as a choice.
Also, I visited local store and try Icon Raiden DKR and Alpinestars Andes 2. Raiden jacket is nice, but American fit (shorter and extended around belly, bomber style) doesn’t fit to me. As I am tall guy, I rather prefer European fit. So, I write off Icon too.
After lots of Googling I narrow my choice to 3 locally available jackets in medium price range for all weather conditions through 3-4 seasons:
1) Alpinestars Yokohama Drystar (~280 EUR)
Construction: Multi-material, laminated poly-textile chassis construction for superior levels of abrasion and tear resistance and weather performance.
Protection: Removable CE-certified shoulder and elbow protectors for superb impact protection. Chest and back pad compartments with PE padding (Alpinestars’ Nucleon chest and back protectors available as accessory upgrade) *.
* I will definitely buy back and chest protectors, so this is not con.
2) Modeka Panamericana (~322 EUR)
Construction: 750 D Tactel® tear resistant outer fabric for a peerless comfort (100 % Polyamide). 1000 D Cordura® reinforcements on crash zones (100 % Polyamide).
Protection: SAS-TEC shoulder and elbow protectors certified according to EN 1621-1:2012 (protection level 2). SAS-TEC back protector certified according to EN 1621-2:2014 (protection level 2).
3) IXS Montevideo Air 2 (~308 EUR)
Construction: 600D polyoxford and buffalo leather reinforcement on shoulders and elbows
Protection: Shoulder and elbow protectors SAFETECH 421/520, certified according to EN 1621-1:2012, level 2. Back protector PROTECT 851, certified according to EN 1621-2:2014, level 2.
All three jackets have similar weather conditions protection: zippered air intakes on chest and arms with air exhausts on the back; waterproofness; thermal liner…
Which jacket would you recommend most?

Re: Choosing safest jacket
Nice to see someone looking for the number “1” reason for spending hundreds of pounds on motorbike clothing.
I get so sick of reading the speel about this stuff, even the reviews on YouTube 99% of the time don’t even mention slide times. Everyone mentions impact protection but that’s only half the battle in an off.
I suppose you can’t go wrong with top brands like Klim and alpine stars. Can you?
Also beware the ce marking con, they might just be mentioning the armour and not the material or stitching.
See the link below for info on ce approval for clothing and impact protection.
