Post by David Harding »

Hi,

Could anyone advise me regarding a new good value helmet for road bike?

Would like open/closed face front.

Check out the SHARP website before you buy....some of those opening front helmets are pretty useless.

I've got a Shark Evoline helmet that can be used as a open or full face. I've had a couple of them now and I think they are a fantastic road helmet. I've also got a Shoei Hornet ADV for any trips that include trail riding that i also rate highly.

LS2 have one that's certified to be used open or closed, can't remember the model number though.
My wife's had a few LS2's and they seem to be nice helmets at sensible prices.

The LS2 which can legally be worn as an open face or full face is known as Ls2 FF399 valiant. I've tried this helmet and the shark evoline 3 in a shop. The shark evoline 3 is cheaper but the LS2 FF399 Valiant seemed to be worth the extra money, because the Shark was difficult to manage with just one hand, I was pulling hard and then bang; however the LS2 had a smooth action.

Is the LS2 polycarbonate or fibreglass?

Personally I am a SHOEI kinda head hence I usually buy from them. Their adventure model is brilliant. Arai and other brand don't usually fit me.

But as usual, you should go in a shop, try different ones, find the best fit for YOU and buy that.
