Anyone got a Klim Krios helmet?

Post by DavidS »

As in the title. Anyone got a Klim Krios lid? They seem a good style and very light.
Will be used for road and trail riding and not ripping my head off at 70mph.
I wear safety glasses (soon to have long distance inserts :( )and flip the visor up for the lanes. Can't stand wearing goggles. Pinlock preferred.
My Shoei Hornet DS (1520g) is rubbish and needs chucking away and I have had enough of buying cheaper helmets. The Pinlock is awful as it blocks my eyeline.
I tried a few on yesterday but finding people round here with stock is next to impossible.....
J&S in Uckfield had about 200 helmets on display and three were dual sport.
The Shoei Adventure doesn't fit me at all.
The Arai Tour X4 is a great fit but pricey and maybe a tad heavy (1625g against less than 1500g for the Klim). I have an Arai Viper GT road helmet and it's great so am inclined to go with it but for the weight.
O'Neal something or other seemed too tight around my forehead.
Can't find an AGV or a Bell locally so might have to travel.
Freestyles are bringing a Klim up from Chichester for me to try on Saturday as we are starting our trail ride from there....why can't they stock them if they are a Klim dealer????
Thoughts on the Klim or other suggestions?
Many thanks. :)

Is it because the Klim dealers have to buy all the kit in themselves, no sale or return as some other manufactures may do. This said, I guess they concentrate on stocking the items and only in the sizes they know will sell mainstream. Bit of a chicken and egg situation I hear you say!

I had a Uvex enduro which is essentially the same lid. Light with very good vision, also very good if you are a spectacle wearer.
Tended to come up slightly larger than normal when Uvex

Uvex was much quieter than the Hornet I had a the same time - peak was better too in that it was bigger (hence better sun shield) yet still had less drag than the Shoei.

The new Hornet Adv is better in that respect but the ventilation isn't as good

Fully agree. It's like a hurricane at 15mph and the peak is useless unless you bend your head down 45 degrees
The Shoei Adv was way too tight as a small and as slack as hell as a medium.

How is the helmet at speed? I have the TourX 4 which is pretty good even at illegal speeds but it coming up for replacing soon and the Krios has caught my eye too.

It looks like the Uvex is around 6 years old and is discontinued in the UK at least so Klim must have bought the design last year, put a sticker on it and doubled the price.
A US website seem a bit derogatory for the above reasons.
Split opinions on how good it is but they are a year or so old, if that makes any difference.
I'm getting a bit sceptical.
The adventure shop mentioned on the ABR webpage is only half an hour from me but visiting by appointment at the moment. They do the AGV AX8 so I might pop over and have a looky.

I have just had a chat to Twistmoto (the adventure shop) and they are really helpful.
They have the AGV AX8 and Tour X4 at good prices so will probably pop up tomorrow, via Freestyles to see their Krios.
Twistmoto say they could go to pretty much any helmet manufacturer and get them to substitute 'Twistmoto' for 'Arai' or whatever and then charge what they like.
Putting me off the Krios if only for price rip off annoyance.
That's not to say Arai's aren't overpriced but at least they are good kit.
The AGV is even lighter than the Krios!

Apparently they are a rebranded version of this considerably cheaper helmet if you want to save a few quid.
