For road touring, I agree with Simonw, and I would say Daytona. Expensive, but the attention to detail is brill, really top quality and super comfy.
I bought mine whilst on holiday in Germany and saved a shed load of dosh.

OK, it's in no way a scientific study, but here's my anecdote:

I ballsed up a stream crossing 4 weeks ago, blasted through fairly deep water with a fistful of throttle, wheelied off the far bank straight into a tree. Aren't half been some clever bastards. Anyway a branch ripped my leg away from the peg and I slammed my foot between the bike and a tree trunk.

Suspect broken foot, much pain, x-rays etc. Turns out to be torn ligaments and a general foot/lower leg mangling (sorry for the technical medical terms). Healing now bit by bit and I'll be back on the bike this weekend.

I was wearing Alpinestars Tech 3 off-road boots. I may be wrong, but I reckon those tough boots saved me from much worse damage and I'm very glad I had them. OK, they're not really all-round adventure boots, but they are pretty comfortable to walk around in and you can spend a whole day in them. Big recommendation from me.

I'd suggest Sidi Adventure Goretex, I've been wearing mine for the last 6 - 8 months and they are very comfortable and completely waterproof.

Another one for Altberg (thumbs)

To echo an earlier post, had mine nearly 20 years and the're like comfy slippers. They're not the waterproof ones but they've never let water in and I've been through horrendous rain in them. Just keep them polished.

They're great for general motorcycle commute and touring. Anything more specialised, you need the propper kit.

Altberg can be a bit slow (months) but well worth the wait.

Had a broken ankle last year with a 25mph off wearing Daytona Roadstars, they are now for walking the dog !!!!!!!! They just do not give a lot of support around the ankle.
Currently using Sidi Adventure boots, they have not been "tested" so far but do give much much more support.

I've have a pair of Oxtars Gore-Tex boots, Oxtars are TCX, they just changed their name.

They must be 8 years and 70 or 80,000 miles old by now. I've had to re-glue the soles as they started to come off at the toe, but they are still going and still 100% waterproof.

When the time comes to replace them a TCX Gore-Tex boot is the only ones I'll look at.

Has anyone tested the new alpinestars toucan boots ?
I am using the sidi adventure boots right now , waterproof , comfy , good looking , decent protection , but not very tough .

Not many people know this but...

Oxtars was founded by ex-Alpine Stars people when A* reinvented itself as a fashion brand and off-shored production to China.

Oxtars then got told by A*'s lawyers to stop using a name with the word star in it, so they rebranded as TCX.

Like Ralph, I've got a pair of original Oxtars boots...mine are 'Dune' MX boots, and the quality is like A*'s from the days when they made their stuff in Italy.

I'm going to agree with the above,
I buy a boot for protection,nothing else,
I don't really care if it's water proof,I don't intend to walk miles wearing them.
I recently weighed up all the options,and bought another pair of tech10's.
When you clip a tree stump at 30 mph and you snap a footrest off you will be really glad your not wearing a touring boot

If you want to pay the ££ these are very very good boots
I have used them from -5c to +46 c safe secure comfortable and waterproof
