Waxed cotton? Jesus, leave it in history.
It's cold, and a pain to waterproof and it marks everything you sit on.
Even the Chelsea tractor brigade don't waterproof their Belstaffs ..........
(shudders at thought of wearing such shit again.............)

Re: Recommend me a good `waterproof` jacket?
i gave up with conventional jackets a long time ago .they usually retain good abraision insulation and impact features but even the good stuff let in at the neck ..eventually they all fail ..but unless you spend stupin money the waterproof layer is in the middle which is naff
buy a goretex jacket to throwover either army or police surplus ..and just thow it over your old other than leaky perfectly good jacket
...when it takes a scuff just patch it ..if yuu want to stay dry and i mean dry as in bone dry ..this cant be beaten highneck ..3 second sleeves to trap gloves
25 quid not including the patched arm :side: ..this coat is my best freind ..full goretex suit pictured for 45 quid

I agree with minkyhead. Stick something over the top that is proper waterproof. Anything that has a waterproof layer is just too hot in warmer climes. I have a set of the lightweight "Goretex" MTP army stuff for on the bike but have just bought this for work.

Not quite as trick as my other jacket but cheap enough not to worry about wrecking by getting it covered in shit.
I wear large textile jacket with built-in elbow, shoulder and back protectors and the XL size fits over it nicely.
If you don't want to wear cammo stuff, the older RAF stuff is blue-grey and the Navy is, erm, Navy-Blue (no-shit, honest)
I think all three arms of the forces are now being issued the MTP pattern.

Gore-tex Pro Shell.
Rukka, Klim, etc.
But Pro Shell.
I've never found anything else that works. Most riders that tell you that their ABC, XYZ doesn't leak haven't used it in an all day down pour. And again the next day once the outer jacket has soaked up gallons of water.
The water just runs off of Pro She'll, fact!!

Re: Recommend me a good `waterproof` jacket?
My bike gears hanging up nice n dry on the door, even after being out all day in hail. Why? Because tge waterproofs are drying over the bath. Fancy rukka is good. ..I own one but it doesnt beat a dedicated waterproof jacket. I dont leave home without em.....secret is to put em on before you need em
With enough profanity, you can accomplish anything
