Helmet options

Post by mwrmoore »

I need a new lid my 4 year old caberg v2 is wobbly and now very noisy. My mileage is about to significantly increase from 3o odd miles a day to 150 ish and most of that on motorway. So I need a better helmet.

I want a very light, very quiet one, not fussed about flip fronts or adventure styling, though either is ok, prefer a fibre one to a placky one, any suggestions? Budget up up to £450, but prefer abut £250...

I bought a Shoei XR1100, Enigma TC2 at the bike show earier in the year for £360.

Good quality, very quiet and plenty of ventiation.

My son has a Shoei Hornet, similar price.
It has the peak, but you can take it off if required.

I find it much noisier but the good thing about the peak it does give you some shade against the sun.

The best, quietest helmet I've ever owned was a Schuberth S1, it was a fantastic helmet.

Trying not to teach you to suck eggs, try and avoid flip front helmets and helmets with peaks.

I agree. Schuberth are superb. Well built, and quiet.

I've got a C3 (flip-front), and various Arai. Both makes well designed and put together,
but the C3 is quieter.

Like anything, you get what you pay for. ;)

If noise reduction is you're priority every one I know who's ever owned one says you can't go wrong with schuberth. I've never owned a Schuberth but my Shoei XR1000 is pretty good as well

Definitely lightness and quietness as a priority, getting a sore neck due to weight of existing lid and tigers aren't the quietest on a long run. I can see the appeal of a peak but I don't think it's needed for my riding. Quality is utmost. While the caberg is good for the price, compared to premium brands it feels a bit Argos...
