So which hard cases .....

Post by iainnic »

OK - so in the past I've used soft luggage, and TT Zega's. I sold the Zega's with my old bike as I was getting "free" boxes with the GSA I bought, but they're not up to what I had in the past, and having got an 800 to use for work I'm looking for something that will fit both (yes, BMW have engineered their cases so you can't re use them on both models obviously hoping that you'll buy to sets - erm... no !)

So, the options now are quote large. I've seen the new TT Pro cases, but its a £1000 spend for a set with locks etc.

So - the question - how do you rate the other kit on the market ? I've seen Metal Mule, Stalkhoffer and ARD and all seem well made. Whats the view on the non TT stuff on the market ?

Hello Iainnic

If you search for previous editions of the ABR magazine, issue 3 i think, but I'm sure someone on this forum will correct me soon, there was a review of the top 20 panniers.

Hope it helps

Ian

Hi Ian

I've got the ARD cases that came with the RD04 and they are really well made

Pete (Knobby101) got the ARD cases for his RD07a AT - great value

And you'll be able to use tham on other bikes !!!

They're definately a contender from what I've seen - and the price !

Recommend the Hepco and Becker ones. 100% waterproof and almost indestructible (so I am told).

ARD cases get my vote.
luckily for me, Roger, the guy who makes them is a good friend of a good friend of mine,
so i got a bit of a deal.
my set are from his early day's so a bit basic.
however, he has improved over time.
mine have been with me on lots of travels and have never let me down.
a big plus for me is that you are dealing with roger himself,
not some company, he's a one man band,he used to make them in his garage but now has a small unit.
another plus is that he will make them to your design, and any colour.
he'll also fit them for you.
all in all, top bloke, top boxes!

+1 for ARD... bought mine 6 years ago and he made them to my exact measurements for no extra cost... they're simple but well made...
