Panniers or Topbox? Or May be both?
Re: Panniers or Topbox? Or May be both?
For day trips I use a 42ltr Givi Trekker, but I also have Kriega 20ltr and 10ltr bags which are fully waterproof and bombproof. First class service and backup as well should you ever need it.

Panniers only, and maybe bungee a small bag onto the rear seat.
I can never get on with a top box, quite literally! I keep kicking them when getting on and off the bike and nearly falling over, whereas with panniers I can swing over the top.
Even tried the Hong Kong Phooey, leg up and attack from the side method, but to no avail. It's even worse trying to get off the bike: left foot down, right leg up and hop sideways like a demented Bibendum on a pogo stick....

Hated the hard panniers on my S1000XR - looked cool but totally impractical for me. I like a small top box and a soft bag on the pillion. Have stuff you need whilst out in the top box, rest in the bag. Not keen on tank bags, they are for camp older men

Not being able to travel light, I have hard panniers on the Explorer, top box, bag strapped to the rack on the top box, an extending tail pack strapped to the pillion seat, (50ltr Oxford bag if camping) tank bag and engine bar panniers. It might not look pretty, but I want for nothing.

You’ve seen mine. All 3 most of the time. Keeps me used to the width. Although I have taken to leaving the top box off these days.
All 3 on a trip.

The only thing I’d add is ROKstraps for tying anything down.
They’ll never stretch or shake loose. Since I found these I’ve never used anything else, and no, I don’t have a finger in this pie.

Re: Panniers or Topbox? Or May be both?
I use both when on tour and just a small topbox when local...... i like to take everything with me to make the trip comfortable
Beer, food, fags.... oh!.. and a 5 berth tent, big sleeping bag, two stoves and a chair.... plus the wash kit, tool kit, kindling for the fire etc
5 star glamping it is.... as per pic What carries a lot carries a little !
Cheers
