Comms

Post by PaulinBont »

One one of the bikes, there isn't the option of mounting a Garmin ( don't want RAM fittings)

Some of the boys use Sena or Cardo systems but I don't need bike-to-bike or rider to pillion , some of the expensive systems are good for hundreds of metres and are useful when group riding but all I need is something so that I can hear Google Map directions off my phone, no need to hear music or phone calls either.

Can anyone please recommend something that clips/ fastens to the exterior of my full-face helmet and is audible at higher speeds .

Thanks,
Paul

Try a search for vnetphone. Cheaper end of the helmet comms market and may be what you need. I have a vnetphone v5 and works well for me. Or perhaps just some wireless earbuds, they'd work but perhaps they'd shut out too much of the outside noise.

The Sena SMH5 may be a little more than some of the cheaper brands but they are simple and easy to use, even with big winter gloves. They'll also keep working for years and you have the backup if anything were to go wrong with them... not that it would!

I use a Scala Rider QZ, it's only to listen to GPS/Music & receive phone calls.

Pretty cheap.

Before that, I had an Alidi one - the sound quality is better on the QZ.

Someone suggested wireless in-ear buds as opposed to a unit that fastens to the helmet?

I used wired earbuds for years before I got the Helmet mounted one!

Worked quite well as long as you manage the cables OK....
