Top box spare key.

Post by nickoff »

Picked up my fairly new V Strom 650 xt yesterday. It came with quiet a few goodies including panniers and an Adio top box. So far so good. When I got chance to properly check the bike out once home I noticed that the top box only has the single key. I've been caught out before when I lost a key for a box so I would like a spare. Looked online and nothing crops up on the iPad. I had one cut in the local market earlier today but the chap warned me that it was an uncommon sized blank, at least he didn't charge me. And no it didn't work :| Any ideas anybody?

Greetings,

Some of the Timpsons shops cut vehicular keys.

Try posting a photo of the key and the lock on here and maybe somebody else might recognise it.

Pic of the box too? I know that older Givi stuff used Fiat blanks.

Maybe you could pop into your local Suzuki dealer, they might be able to get you a lock for top box that will match your ignition key.

Worth trying a proper lock Smith type shop.
I needed a spare key for a abus U lock which said on the key DO NOT DUPLICATE , my local locksmith shop had to send it away to be cut as it was a specialised job but still only cost about a £5.

If you end up replacing the lock with a padlock, make it a combination lock or carry a spare.
If you lock your keys inside your topbox, you might be lucky and there may be a council depot nearby, manned by a biker and doesn’t mind lending you a hacksaw...
