Sourcing an Alloy Top Box

Post by Weealwyn »

Hi All,

New to the forum but I have done a few searches on this topic but haven't generated much.

I am not a fan of Top Boxes - but they are so practical for my mix of commuting and dreaming of adventure trips.

Are there places to look for second hand bike luggage that I may not be aware of (have searched Gumtree and Ebay unsuccessfully so far)

I have Mono Key pannier racks on the bike already and will be on the lookout for bargains - but really just looking for a decent top box at the moment.

any tips?

thanks

Hello again Alwyn.
Your trying the most popular places already, but postage to Ni can be quite expensive for these items from the mainland, with some people refusing to send these items over the water to here.
Apart from an alloy top box, would you consider a Hepco Becker Gobe as I have a spare one I might sell, this one?

That looks good. I was looking for alloy but there is no real reason for that.

What size is it?
Is there much involved in fitting to a luggage rack?
Is it waterproof?
How much would you be needing for it?

Cheers

The Gobi box H36 x W30 x L45, which is a 42 litre capacity.
The mounting rack is originally of a BMW r650gs,but I'm sure it could be easily made to fit any flat rear plate, just by removing the 650s extra appendages.
And yes waterproof.
Could do the lot for £70.
I'm in ards but work in Belfast

Just in case someone else is interested? I’ve got Hepco Becker alu panniers and a top box. They had been fitted to a 2016 AT Honda for one year and then removed, I’m never going to use them. Home for me is N Ireland

Hello Sir

I’m guessing at this stage you have got sorted with alum panniers and top box?

If not, I would accept £325 for the set.

Let me know if you’re interested.
