Halfords

Post by Dark Knight »

You look at Halfords and think this store has been around a long time, I remember it from the 60,s. but it dates from 1892 and In 1902, Rushbrooke moved to a store on Halford Street, hence the name.
Have attached a few pages from a 1930,s catalog.

Still shit! I went in on Saturday looking for a standard sized sump plug washer(it was for my bike but it turned out a Ford one fits) but they would have to order it.

I always assumed that as a big shop they would supply low quality tools but lots of people have socket sets that have lasted for decades :)
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

I love my Halfords Pro socket set. Bought it about 15 years ago and everything is still going strong, despite my cack-handed ownership. I often use the biggest socket wrench as a hammer.

It's trying to use a hammer to tighten bolts that isn't working so well...

... I've used a hammer and chisel to loosen knackered bolts before now...

My 1/2" socket set was bought from a friend about 40 years ago, and he'd got it from a catalogue (Littlewoods?) - only a cheapie (Toolstar) ...... but it's still going strong despite my best efforts (it's AF/Metric/Whitworth) including undoing Land Rover suspension parts.

My 3/8" torque wrench is a Halfords Pro, though ..... nicely made and good to use (and unlike some the settings are easy to see!).
