I had a 1200 Multistrada and that was all day comfortable. I then went to a 650 Versys and couldn't do any longer than 40 miles in the saddle. I was literally getting off in pain. I sold it not long after and got the Versys 1000 which was almost as good as the Multistrada.
I've just ordered a new Versys 650 but they have said that comfort has been improved somewhat so it will be interesting to see what they have done with the seat. Otherwise I will be going down the after market route.

When shopping around for the one and only new bike I've ever bought, I went for the gs800 that I ended up with because it came with the 'comfort' seat and by 'eck it's comfy, 500 plus miles days aren't curtailed by arse soreness.
I've said it before and I'll probably say it again, a lot of discomfort for riders, particularly when in hot countries, is the hairiness of their arses and they end up with the feeling of being 'plucked'. Shave your behinds and inner thighs people, nobody will probably see it.

no really .. It was flat and firm but supportive, despite being only about 2" thick inc the base.
It thus stopped soft seat penetration into the Turkish Delight regions
it was the opposite of Big John (big bad Johnn) .. "kinda narrow at the shoulders and broad at the hips"
and so kept the inner thighs loose and supported the bum bones, thus keeping the pretty boy smile ever shining
But it was nearly 15 years ago, so maybe my pain threshold was higher then or my but was more supple,,,,
Or it might just be I was going to fast to worry about my arse

i loved my 954 .. it rode well .. started well, even with a dead battery and always remained pristine (quality)
was incredible to ride, fantastic handling and incredible easy brakes .. it made even me seem like an average biker
it would pull brill in top gear even at 30mph
it was only the wrists and neck was the problem
you had to be doing at least 85 to start to get the wind support
(100 -120 was normal and so easy)
I would still have it now but I had to fix something with the engine but had to move house so sold it
I still miss it more than any bike
but I was starting to take silly risks as it was so easy to,
so probably best it went,
it was impossible to ride it sensibly
`the bike made me do it officer`
and yes ... that seat was the most comfy ever!

My K1100LT came with a purpose made seat, made locally to me by someone who does motorcycle seats. Its got armchair comfort and cost small money.
My K100RT also had a seat made up by the same guy. I bought it off someone selling parts.
My advice is find the sort of seat you like, get someone to make it up for you. A lot cheaper and made to fit.

If you can get your seat made with some support to the very lower part of your back it avoids back going on you. Its amazing how good some of those shape seats can be over very long distances.

Of course the most comfortable seat I've ever had was a Road Zeppelin air adjustable seat on my Electra Glide. Wasn't interested in usual Harley upgrade bling, just wanted transcontinental comfort in the arse department, without looking like an arse. The seat had a built in compressor and numerous on the move adjustments for both rider and pillion. At the time the seat cost £800 in the UK, but then the pound was worth something, so equivalent to £400 in the States. My mate was going over the States to see his then girlfriend, so I asked him to bring me back one in hand luggage. He duly visited Chicago HD, who told him to come back that a Saturday when all accessories would be half price. They even put one of the two in stock aside. No problem bringing my £200 seat back, or duty, and after selling my old (virtually new) seat for £100, you've already done the maths, best £100 upgrade I've ever carried out.

this is a vexed subject, i have had my motorbike seats rebuilt softer, the original spong material goes hard over the years, i've tried various seat pads with the exception of the American 'Butt Buffer' which I have yet to try.
I've got an idea that this problem comes with age as I don't remember the issue from my earlier years on a motorbike but I might well be wrong.
Last year I did over 500 miles in a day but I must admit the last 150 were quite unpleasant with sore/numb bum syndrome, I think you can build up the miles in the season but after not riding for a while it's worse.
I find the only way is to stop after about 80 miles, if not less, have a coffee and a walk about.
