I filter with no issues on a R1200GS with the collapsable vario side panniers overall with is around a meter so I cant see a topbox being an issue.jaffa1963 wrote: FWIW If you plan on doing a lot of filtering the 58l will make the back of your bike a lot wider and it could also interfere with any top opening hard panniers you may fit later.

Re: 42ltr or 58 ltr
If I was on my own the smaller one is the obvious choice or just strap everything the the pillion seat!. BUT I travel everywhere on my AT two up and use a 58l top box and yes it probably is a bit too big but it works for me. I can filter just fine with the Givi combo and no problems opening the panniers. The only thing to add is that you really have to think how to pack it properly ie weight distribution so it doesn't put the handling off too much. All camping gear goes in the top box including tent and poles (vango galaxie 300 so quite a big 'un!) and the missus and I have a side box each. Weirdly for some reason I only get the smaller 37l side pannier and she gets the 48  Like I say if I was on my own I don't think I would need such a big box.
Re: 42ltr or 58 ltr
If the topic owner is inexperienced enough to ask for advice about top box sizes he could easily be inexperienced enough to forget about allowing for the bigger box and clip a car etc... plus filtering in an NC500 is not the same as on your panzer.Andi_Archer wrote:I filter with no issues on a R1200GS with the collapsable vario side panniers overall with is around a meter so I cant see a topbox being an issue.jaffa1963 wrote: FWIW If you plan on doing a lot of filtering the 58l will make the back of your bike a lot wider and it could also interfere with any top opening hard panniers you may fit later.

I have a 52 litre Givi which I bought because it takes two lids. Rarely put the lids in it but it does take a lot of other crap.

Only use my top box for commuting. It comes off for a long run, the Ortlieb rolltop gos on instead.

Hi
Might be a bit late with this but I have the Givi trekker outback 58 topbox and 42 and 37 panniers on my 1200 Explorer, the Topbox takes my Arai tour 4 plus my wife Shoei easily,I have also found that they are very good against rain,I don’t use any liners and as I camp a lot we use them as table and chairs.
The hiviz stuff was in response to almost being run over on the M6 by a East European lorry driver “sorry matey me not see yous” well you do now....
