Remote garage heater

Post by vRSG60 »

My garage is a mile from my house and it's cold & damp. Is there a gas/fuel heater that I could leave running to take the edge off it?
I'm thinking maybe paraffin or is there a cheaper option?

Get an electric oil filled heater. No fire risk and no fumes.

Keep it on low and it's cheap to run..i have one on my boat at the mo and works a treat.

Paraffin is reasonably stable but I think you'd have to face some difficult questions if there was a fire in either your garage or any adjacent ones if you left a paraffin heater running as a source of background heat.

Condensation will be a problem too with any liquid fuel.

a lot of cons on these replies and they all correct, if you have mains power go for mikes suggestion, you can get the ones for green houses as well.

i use the standard oil elect heater but that's on my premises, also if you go just electric get the one that switches off if its knocked over

I assume it is for to warm up the garage while you are there, not to keep your bikes warm and dry? If that is the case, then look for a propane gas heater, no power needed and actually bloody good at taking the edge off a cold working area as they come with around 4-5kW max output. They do dump some moisture into the air...

It's actually the opposite. To keep it warm & dry when I'm not there.
