Best portable security?
Best portable security?
We have almax chains and squire locks here but at over 6kg a metre its not really practical to take them anywhere (ie touring). Disclocks we have anyway (Xena) but what's the best portable security available which isn't going to be massively heavy etc?
Re: Best portable security?
Use your disclock on the front and then use a U lock thru the rear wheel & swingarm, combined with a steel cable to attach to something immovable like a lamp post, railings ect.
Onguard Pitbull that comes with a cable is one option, or other even heavier combos of this sort.

I just use cable locks when touring as you can thread them though helmets, jackets, etc. There is no security against a really determined thief. When camping a cord between bike and tent for an alarm but dont trip over it on the night wee stagger.
The secret of a long life is knowing when its time to go.

I use one of the Oxford screamer disc locks.
Pretty damn loud but can be annoying as the rain sets it off but suppose the sensitivity is also a good thing.
Before I bought it I read a lot of mixed reviews but it's been a1

one thing i did on my old suzuki that saved it on countless occasions was i wired a hidden kill switch in, with flicking it on, the bike wont start even with the key, saved it at least 3 times from being stolen by little light fingered theives...

Yup, portability is an issue - I tether my house to our K9! (thumbs)Zookman wrote:Or a real Pitbull tethered to your bike..... might be a bit awkward to carry tho.
On topic, no specifics but I think too much stuff will draw more attention to a bike, also a rare model is less easy for professionals to shift - not the case with joyriders though ...

I use an armoured chain and spinning padlock, all contained in an Oxford lock bag which sits on the real pillion seat area and straps dowm to the bike's rack
Keeps the weight low down and in the right place, then you can strap a roll bag on top of it as it's flat
