I bought a rather scruffy Givi top box second-hand many years ago...It's great, and you can take it off very quickly. Haven't noticed any handling problems with it in use.

I've got a spare Hepco and Becker Gobi top box I'm looking at selling

Probably too big (58L) and heavy for you but I can easily fit a lid and jacket (with back protector) in the box on a hot day, not a fan of wide tin boxes on the side  , don`t normally carry a lot of weight in there but it`s very handy (thumbs) a fraction higher and wider than my previous box but because it`s square can fit a lot more in and it makes a good camping stool (thumbs)

You don't need a top box.

Me and her toured Europe for two and a half weeks with just panniers and a tank bag. No camping, mind :(

me too. i got the half plastic half metal looking one (but is all plastic). never thought in a million years that i'd use a 'top box' but after get the heated grips and muffs i thought i might as well go the whole hog and become an old git!
very handy and it lives on the bike all the time now. mrs likes it as she no longer has to hold on she can lean on the box

Steve

I do agree in that panniers and tank bag will definitely suffice and I usually start out with empty top box and that's for camping. I could go without it but mostly I use it for food and what I pick up along the way. When I have sorted out the camping I leave the panniers off and just use the top box.

However I think the request was regarding a top box and no panniers and I have done camping with just a top box and tank bag without panniers.

One comfort I enjoy is a flask of ice cool water and on a hot day that's a great asset.
