Of course you need a top box , how else will you have room to carry all your Euro,s to Greece. (thumbs)

Givi for me every time. I only half fill it with things like trainers, odd maps, water, etc so when I stop I have room to chuck the helmet, gloves, jacket, etc in securely. Also when you shop for the camp meal you have somewhere to bung it in the evening. The heavy stuff goes low down in the panniers. Spoils the look of a bike totally mind.

I always said that I would never use a topbox.Then a few years ago I bought an Africa Twin with a Givi box on the back.The bike has long gone but the topbox is still here with me.

I just bought one of the cheap crappy ones from the Chinese bikes spares website and fit it when I need the extra space. I've used it for 3 years and a few Euro trips with no problems. It can just about fit 2 helmets, also handy for the bits you want to keep dry or secureish

A butt ugly Givi E45 for me, had it for years, now fitted with an Ikea Trivet on the lid to attach other stuff and doubles up as a table when camping

I have a SHAD top box that I chose for 3 main reasons.

1: holds 1 full face lid or 2 open face lids, so big enough without being too huge.

2: flat top and attachment points to strap down excess luggage if required

3: Locks to the bike or shut but can also be opened and closed without leaving the key in. (Hate my dads Givi which has to use the key to open or close it).

I've had this box on my last three bikes and have modified it to make it even better for touring by adding a power socket that plugs into the bike so I can charge Macbook/camera/etc while riding and internal dividers to stop small object rattling all around the bottom.

never had a top box and never will. Stay strong don't ruin another bike :whistle:
kriega 40l pack is enough for weekenders and a tank bag for valuables.
