Never used one, and not much space on a 690 to fit one. Prefer a rucksack anyway as I have one with waterbladder for drinking.

Use one on long trips ( when I don’t use a top box) for stuff like sunglasses, visor cleaning kit and water bladder.

Normal riding at home, prefer to chuck stuff in a top box…

Any suggestions for keeping the water cool? I’ve sometimes drunk from a camelback that feels like bath water.

I suggest adding some taste. If you like iced tea (that is without the ice) it will help disguise the bath water taste.
Champagne taste on beer budget.

Not easy on a trip, but you can fill it up with bottled water from a shop fridge. Or if using a base for day trips, I put it in the freezer whilst having breakfast and getting ready.

I really like the small enduristan tank bag for majority of the time - small enough to get multi tools, contact lens, spare tube and a few other bits.

For longer trip - I used the big enduristan tank bag, and packed it out with flight case liner - cut to shape to hold DSLR and lenses. - now replaced by drone and mobile phone!

I thought the same and added squash or something but it caused mould in the pipes.
I tried cleaning it in various ways but had to ditch the tube and bladder and replace it.
Never add anything, said the guy in the shop.

I would not add anything with high sugar. Warm water and sugar is the recipe for mould.
Another option to stay hydrated, I've sometimes used, is stainless steel thermos. When I have that, I put coffee in it, and stop every few hours to have a cup. It can be filled with cold water if you'd prefer.
