How much power.. Do you really need???????????

Post by BIG BILL »

I have over the last few years owned.

1. A Triumph Tiger 955i 2005
2. A Yamaha Fazer 1000 2006
3. A Triumph Tiger 955i 2004 ( I like Tigers )
4. A Yamaha xt 1200z super tenere.

Although I love my Triumphs and the new Tenere, I sometimes wonder how much power do you need?

The Tiger had loads of grunt.
The fazer had loads of power.. "ooooooooooooooohhh power" and very very very fast.

But I'm getting on a bit and do you need sports bike power or a good big single thumper between your legs???

I have just spent alot of money on my new bike and love it but still wonder??

Do I need all the power and comfort or can I get away with a 600 Traily?

Horses for courses... you might hate a 600 Trailie lack of comfort and horsepower as you seem to prefer big touring bikes.

Why worry, if you have space buy both :D

I've done a few miles on my 650 Versys recently and it's had me asking myself the same question but we took the 1200GS out on Sunday and what a difference. The GS is so much easier to ride with it's lazy power which makes me think the smaller the bike the more you have to work at riding it. So for lazy power I'll be keeping the GS.

You have to decide where to make the compromise. I think that the 650 single is destined to become the best Adventure Bike as it has better off road capabilities (which seems to be more in demand these days) due to it's lighter weight and as engine technology improves has adequate power and smoothness for proper touring. Still lots of people who will want a pure sportsbike or a full blown heavyweight tourer.

This most important thread highlights why we all need lots and lots of bikes

lots of horses for all our different courses we play on

ive a drz400 e which trails perfectly but its no enduro wepon so a 2smoke 300exc please
I also would like a ktm rally 690r for other play time rallies
perhaps a nice 990 for touring time
oh and my rsvr stays for other play time

so there we have it us boys need lots of toys (and girls)

I would like a bit more power, 45 or so hp to move around a 195kg bike is not really enough.
