Mash XT500 clone

Post by Richard Simpson Mark II »

Previously only available as a sort of super-moto...now with proper-size wheels.

Engine looks like a Honda Dominator clone

Brush up your German

In the UK soon, apparently

Saw this online the other day, I think it looks fantastic.
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

Saw this during lockdown and it really appealed to me although a lack of local dealers and a few electrical problems on a Facebook group put me off swooping on a nearly new Ebay sale.
I've since found a dealer between Kidderminster and Stourport with new bikes in stock and initial thoughts based on a 'sit on' test are that it feels a bit heavy (but it carries the weight low down), the ergonomics feel good for me and the fit/finish look good. It feels roomier than my Himalayan and should have more power but the cost to trade up (???) wouldn't be worth it to me.
Riders that like all the electrical bells and whistles of modern bikes won't be impressed but having owned a couple of Chinese/Indian built bikes myself (alongside our German/Jap modern stuff) this sector appeals to my simpler tastes these days.
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

You could, and it would be more 'authentic' and would win prizes at classic shows, draw a crowd etc

But on the Mash you get an electric start, disc brakes and better suspension.

It's a comparison I made when I rode the Royal Enfield 650 Interceptor...about the same price, handling and performance as a 1971 BSA Lightning...but with more gears, better brakes, less vibration, an electric-starter, no oil leaks etc. Indeed, I wrote an article for an American British bike magazine pointing all this out!

You pay your money and you make your choice...and you'll always get your money back if you buy the original

It's only my opinion but I think Mash Motors should change the photo of the bike on the front page of their website...it makes the bike look 'spindly' and the other photos make it look 'chunky'...i.e. the photo they've chosen is distorted... or is it just me :?

Yes, its squashed somehow. Amazing that they haven't noticed.
