New toy

Post by illmor »

Until about a week ago, i didn't even look at one of those, but overall package makes sense. Slim, agile, decent ground clearance. Found one quite close, went to have a look, bought next day. I'm loving it. Got my biking mojo back. Nice extras already fitted. Next to get: HEED crash bars, bash plate and some 50/50 tires. Took my son for a little ride this morning. No tarmac involved. We're looking for helmet and gloves for him. ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Some photos. And 40kg less than my cbf 1000 is phenomenal.

Get it above 6k revs and it's like poking a hornets nest with a stick ....... enjoy.

Much underrated bike, I had one for a few years and it was a very capable performer as well as very reliable ( even the shims are not too tricky to change). Join the Versys forum, it's one of the best and you will get any questions answered without too much grief, but also there is plenty of friendly banter.

After over 13 years riding inline 4s, i need time to get used to twin. A bit vibey, and doesn`t like to be below 3K revs, unles 2nd gear or lower. Sounds nice with that IXIL can, i have to say. i also have original exhaust. Over next coming weeks: air filter and plugs change, radiator needs cleaning and some fins are not straight. head bearings seem to be OK, as with no hands on handlebars it goes straight, no wobbling. Throttle cables need adjusting and lubing. I like to know what`s under fairings. I enjoy working on my bikes, so it`s all good. It`s 2007 model, and only 25K km on the clock ( that`s about 16,5K miles ).

To buy list: radiator guard, crashbars, rear hugger and windscreen. This MRA is a piece of..... Too low for almost 1,9m person.

What 50/50 tires would you recommend ? Taking into account that both wheels are 17 inch. I don't want to spend on a front 19 inch conversion. Gravel and forest tracks, mud, wet grass etc. Nothing serious yet. TKC80 could be poor on tarmac, but i'm new in this matter. Thanks.

No idea if they do them in the right sizes but Mitas E07 are good all-round tyres and not too expensive.

I'd avoid anything with an unbroken band of solid rubber down the centre of the rear tyre...you'll just zig-zag everywhere that isn't tarmac.

I had Avon Distanzia's on mine which clogged with mud really easy and wore out on tarmac really quickly-avoid.

Brought one myself a few months ago for a winter hack, after owning one new in 2008. Adding some Avon trailriders .

Is that a seat warmer?
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.
