1995 Triumph tiger 900

Post by Darren s »

I will be picking this up in the next week or so 1 owner and 19k she’s like new. Has anyone had one and have any advice on what mods or upgrades are worth doing?

I had a ride on a mates one once and thought it was great, but too tall for me. The only thing I remember about the earlier Hinckley Triumphs was that is was important to keep the battery charged up as trying to start one with a low battery could bugger up the sprang clutch.

The air filter will probably need to be changed. You'll find out why when you try to change the air filter.

But, wow, what a clean bike!

I’m looking to ride it most days so I’m hoping a new decent battery and I should be good to go. I have also seen mentioned a air box mod so I’m sure it will be on the list

I've had both the 900 and 1050---on the 900 to change the starter clutch is a major strip, they changed it on the 1050 so its just a side casing--but never had trouble with either. Also the Hall effect pick ups can fall over when hot--basically starts and runs ok for a while then just stops for no reason--changed out the 900 easy enough and that fixed it. The 1050 was a nice engine but its tall and carries its weight high as well--not the easiest to push around and handling is best described as "ok" (despite Hyperpro front and rear). However, depending on what you paid it looks a bargain , and a decent low intensity colour scheme.
