Beta Alp 4.0

Post by lancashirelad »

I’ve always fancied an Alp 4.0 & I’ve seen a couple recently but now they’ve been discontinued the prices have sky rocketed & folk are asking more than they cost new when they were still available, ie £5500 & £4800, for 18 reg bikes, luckily both are 5hrs+ from me & my days of driving hundreds of miles to view bikes are long gone so I’ll wait patiently for one a bit nearer home I think. Also while trawling eBay I’ve noticed there’s a lot of fairly expensive Serows appeared on the market, one being over £6K!!

Shame
A friend near Kendal sold a minter last week (never been off-road) in the £3’s
You should have said earlier

As everyone knows, because I'm always boring on about it, I'm a big fan of the Suzuki DR350S, which as you know powers the Alp 4.0.

I rode one in its earliest version, and sadly found that it was one of those bikes where you had to sit where the designer expected you to sit. It was clearly designed for someone much shorter than me, so I had to pass on it. I got a Pampera instead, which was even smaller, but you could sit where you liked on the longer seat and transition more comfortably from sit to stand.

The bike I really wanted Beta to make was an X-trainer with a DR350 engine...I'd love one of those!

If you can find one of these then they do a better job than the Serrow IMO--108 kg, 29 BHP, decent 6 speed spacing, decent standard suspension, air cooled etc--does what it says on the tin.

It hasn’t actually physically gone, but a deposit taken and collection & full payment is due in March

Should anything intervene to the contrary I will let you know

That’s one I’ve seen advertised, looks ok but both I’ve seen are just a bit to dear IMHO but I may be wrong I frequently am.
This is the other I’ve seen in this picture, it’s £5500 but only has 600 miles on?

Seems rather overpriced - I sold my 19 plate last year for £3600....I quite enjoyed mine and thought it had a nice, tractable motor but found it quite top heavy, had very basic suspension, rather fragile plastics and fixings and the switchgear and wiring had the robustness of overdone spaghetti.

The many annoyances simply too often spoiled the ride. Italian itch scratched...
