Motorino Atala Rizzato

Post by dynax »

Hi everyone, i picked up this moped yesterday as a none runner with a seized engine, the good news is the engine is unseized now with help from a good friend wd40 :D , next issue is the registration or lack of, it came with no documents as it was a barn find, i have done a vin check but no results have come back as it is a pre 1980 with an 8 digit vin and most online checkers only recognise the later 17 digit vin, does anyone know of any ways of getting the vehicle details, i will be contacting DVLA later this morning and see if it is still on their database, any way here is a couple of pics taken last night whilst freeing off the engine, cheers, mike.

 very understanding, i brought it in out of the car, but i was itching to get the piston free, so i decided to do a partial strip down, any way moving on contacted DVLA this morning and they have no records of a previous registration so I will be applying for a new registration, it's not very often you get a 70's vehicle with one registered keeper  , more pics to follow when i get it moved into the shed, cheers, Mike.

Love that rat look.

I've lived alone for the last eight years and it's great. Here is a blurry photo for 2012 when I had an oil leak so brought her into the kitchen to work on...

And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

Yep, I'm in. Looking forward to seeing it all finished and shiny, by the weekend. :D

I've never heard of a Rizzato Califfo De Luxe, but it sounds like a coffee being drunk by Joe Pesci wearing a Versace suit, on the shores of Lake Como.

Best of luck with the resto...

We have spark and working throttle, bit of help if you will please, the spark plug that was in was a b7hs10 but i can't be sure it ever ran with that as the little screw on cap thing is seized on and the HT lead won't fit on, but the recommended plug is a b5 hs ---, should i stick with a b7 or get a b5 cheers, mike.

I suspect the B7 and B5 are pretty similar but with a slightly different heat range. My inclination is to try to get the engine running with what's there already... and get the correct, listed, plug at your leisure.
Some equivalents listed here, although I guess yours is a 10mm thread variant, so you'll need to look deeper.

The screw nipple thing on the plug may be a permanent fixture... some were made that way - you just need the appropriate clip-on plug cap, which should screw into the end of the HT lead.

I've a soft spot for old mopeds.... stems back to ruining my dad's lawn trundling round on a Phillips Gadabout some 53/54 years ago!
