The BMW G310GS thread.
After the recent attempt to start a new thread by snaf MK11 about the 310GS, which popped out from the Photo Chain thread briefly but was soon sucked back in, I thought that we should/could have one.
So, who’s got anything to say?

Since the dealer advert photo we’ve also added a Rally Raid Products rear rack plate and the luggage side rails.
They will both help strapping the Giant Loop Coyote bag on and the side rail thingies may end up with a tool tube attached as well.

These bits....although she went for the rack plate in silver. Both parts were very easy to fit, no bending, grinding or modifying required.

Looks pretty good to me. Better looking than the bigger GSes in my opinion. And those engine protection bars seem like they'll do the job. How does it feel off-road, weight-wise?

Sarah hasn’t actually got off road with it as yet. Unless you count the 100 yard track to Mark vb’s house.
She is certainly more comfortable moving it around than the 800GS that she’s just got rid of.
The bike seems to be happy at 60/65 MPH on the open roads so that’s about right for us.
As I said elsewhere, the plan was to head to the Spanish side of the Pyrenees, maybe get a Vibraction road book or three.....maybe next year.

Excuse the intervention.. still BMW small .. what happened to the g450x .. why was it withdrawn after 2 years?

The G450X was an out and out enduro bike and was never that competitive at the top level. Even with David Knight on board.
Plus some design choices, something with the clutch revolutions and also the relationship between the gearbox output shaft and the swinging arm...I think.
The few that I have seen being used for Rally Raid events usually broke down.
Add to that BMW Motorrad hoping that the enduro crowd would bust their Gin Palace dealer showrooms rooms en-mass to purchase said machine.
The rest, as they say, is history.

I did wonder why there wasn't already a thread running on the smallest BMW, ours is new this year with a huge pre-reg discount.
It complements my 650GS nicely although the 650 is getting better MPG, whether that will change once run in and first serviced time will tell. For now it's staying standard but if my 650 gets replaced I'll be buying one and making it offroad orientated.
Re the 450GS a good bike for trail riding with lots of potential, unfortunately the market place was already full with fairly brand loyal customers and the GS owners who bought them as a first foray into trail riding were mostly over biked for their capabilities from my experience.
