The problem is I lust after sports bikes but the riding position does not suit my troublesome back so they have to go & I am back on more upright bikes, the XRV750 is behind the SB3. When I brought the SB3 the choice was between it and a more modern RC30..
Though not in the Bimota or RC30 money class I got a 92 Fireblade, 90's style street fighter, to play with during lockdown, it had been off the road for 12 years, although riding position OK getting my leg over the rear fairing is too much for my back.

Yeah, you have my sympathies. I've had 2 discectomies and a lifetime of back pain, certainly not made any better by my obsession with sports bikes.

Perhaps some kind of winch located above the Blade, could get you on board? Then just don't stop riding until you get back home again? Yes, that makes perfect sense.

Of course some fool will come along and say I'm being daft and we should give up sports bikes, but what do they know eh?

Greetings,

I used to look after an 'old' BSA M20 for a chap in his eighties from Dukinfield, he had owned the bike from new and it still had the original canvas side bags. He and his wife had travelled around Europe on the bike when they where younger so it held many happy memories for them.

His wife used to hold the bike whilst he started it on its centre stand, off he rode for his day out, he used a petrol station where somebody would come out to refill his petrol tank and hold the bike whilst he used the facilities, return home, sound his horn and the wife would come out to hold the bike whilst he climbed off.

So Dave perhaps not so daft an idea after all

TTFN

Hugh.

Ps the only major work was in the late 70s when I fitted a new piston and rebore plus cylinder head decoke.

CB1100R for sale here, I remember you saying earlier in the thread that it evoked good memories. The price looks good, although it isn't mint. I'd guess these come up for sale very infrequently. Shame though that the OEM pipe has been replaced.

Interesting read, that ad. Our team manager when I was doing endurance racing was an Aussie guy called Gresham Kidby. He had been closely involved in the Castrol 6 Hour race back in the day. It must have been hard work flinging such a heavy bike around for an hour at a time as a rider. I still think they look good.

Whats under the tail, could it not be chopped down to something a lot smaller? Blade Bobber.....could be a new look, and even if it looks terrible, you won't be able to see it when on the bike.

Not sure if the blade side stand would be up to mounting the bike using the LHS peg?

No porn allowed on the site.

These posts are not guilty enough any more. I would feel no guilt about riding around on a Superleggera. Except perhaps that I could feed a small country for a while with what it costs.

We need more of those bikes that you secretly like but don't normally admit to. Treat this thread as a catholic confessional...
