I had an XT back in the early 80’s.
From my ageing memory, it was good fun in a big thumpery sort of way.
Now my knee has gone, no point in wanting another one but would be good otherwise. Some prices getting silly now though.

Re: Guilty Pleasures
I had an XT500 that was in great shape, the "look" is better than the riding experience. I found mine easy enough to kick start as long as you didn't faff around, just ease the piston into position then give it some welly with a well protected kick. The motor has plenty of vibey grunt and is ok up to 60mph but the brakes are terrible, handling not so great from the spindly forks. At the price they fetch now I think it would be dissappointing, I sold mine for £1200 many years ago and it was a really good example, probably do an easy £4000 today. I had more fun on my MTX200, but that looked dreadful.

I too was tempted by the modern version but big pennies and i'm not prepaired to loose money , i did however buy this and played on it for a year , bit of nostalgia , had a laugh and scratched that itchDavidS wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 1:19 pmThe best looking modern Jap IMHO.PHILinFRANCE wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 11:56 am This is my all time top of the list , mate had one when we were kids .....hated him

I nearly looked at trying the modern version back in February but I have never been that keen on Jap 4 cyl bikes so didn’t bother in the end. Had a CB750FA for a year and never fell for it. I had a Fazer 1000 loan bike for a day and it just seemed boring so I did about 40 miles then went back home to work.

Re: Guilty Pleasures
Its def up there on mine too. Back in the day I tested one from Paul Smart's Paddock Wood shop in kent and experienced the dreaded wobble... and survived. It scratched the itch enough then, but a few years later when I was at college (mature student !) I had a young neighbour who had one but I went and bought a GS850 for some reason. Went down to south of france and to the TT on it and wished I'd had a Z insteadPHILinFRANCE wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 11:56 am This is my all time top of the list , mate had one when we were kids .....hated him

Re: Guilty Pleasures
wOw there's SO many I'd love to afford and keep in my garage alright...! Dunno were to start.
For now I'd love the early BMW R75/5 from around the early 1970's era, utter lust mode.
I also have a craving for a Honda CBX1000, as I was an apprentice motorcycle mechanic for a Honda Motorcycle Dealership's in the late 1970's when they were first released. Our Motorcycle shop had a few in at the time, silver and the gorgeous candy red colour, my chin dropped whenever I seen the six exhaust pipes....!

Me too, the only really dangerous bike I've ever owned & I loved it ! (strangely the screen made it a little more stable at speed) My bike was used for this article and those test figures were for the actual bike back in '91.
Sold it in 2008 for safety sake. Ironically I got smashed up a year later on real docile Africa Twin.

Re: Guilty Pleasures
I've been fortunate to scratch an itch with a scooter obsession earlier this year, in January I picked up this clean condition/one owner from new with 1,200 miles on the clock, just got lucky......right place/right time - fabulous thing...!!
