I’ve fancied a CRF250 Rally since they came out.

What are people’s thoughts on waiting for the twin spark to come out or saving some money by getting an older one?
Cheers

Re: Twin spark crf 250
I’ve seen a few pieces about this on the net. Apparently a lot of Asian countries heavily penalise bikes over 250 whilst ‘the West’ wants dual sport bikes around the 350cc mark. Using this tactic Honda can produce one bike that is 250cc for the huge Asia market as well as a being on the same playing field as the 310gs, little Versys etc....byewayrider wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 2:22 pm Suzuki had twin spark dual sports back in 80s the dr650 etc.... Sounds like a good business strategy to me.

Re: Twin spark crf 250
my 600 transalp is twin spark--so 300cc cylinders with two plugs--but its a 3 valver!!--down at 250 cc with 4 valves the only place for a plug is right in the centre, and to be honest the advantages of twin plugs down at this size in terms of a more rapid burn are debatable--especially on a relatively low revving motor. A more rapid burn means higher cylinder pressures--AND HIGHER TEMPS--which in turn also means more NOx production--basic physics/chemistry ! .

In theory it will cut emissions a little.
Manufacturers often make small changes like this simply to create a selling point for a new model year when they see sales dropping off, more an extension of the bold new graphics thang than anything else
