Hi Will,How tall are you and how strong,iv'e had a crosstourer and 3 tiger 1050's,the triumph handles like a giraffe on roller skates because of the single sider and also because of that it's always out of chain adjustment and is very susceptible to getting it just right and as with all triumph's they are an astronomical price to service,the crosstourer is a big heavy slug with a very slow to react gearbox/shaft drive,so i wouldn't have either of them,i would go for a vstrom,tried and tested engine and really good value.I had a 1190 ktm and was one of the best bikes iv'e ever had but that was mainly because of 150bhp so could pull 2 up and still go at a very good pace,the 1050 ktm is about 30bhp down on that and also they are quite tall.

I'm only 5'8 so you will have no problem with the Ktm and i think they were about 115bhp,i also used to have a 990smt and i really liked that,the 1050 is the modern version of it and because they were not out long and sold the remaining stock for a steal you should get one pretty cheap.

Hi Will.

I'd have a close look at these machines;
KTM 990 SM-T (115bhp), or the KTM 1090 Adventure (125bhp). I would suggest you try get a long test-ride to try them out if you can locally.

I've been riding a first generation V-Strom DL1000 since 2008, as much as I like that bike if I was pushed to change I'd closely look at the KTM 1090 Adventure for sure...….and has a sensible 23litre fuel tank..!

Or, another Stonking contender would be this Japanese machine;
Suzuki GSX-S1000F, heavily based on the fabulous K5 GSXR1000 amazing engine, putting out a healthy 150bhp, slipper clutch/ABS/Brembo's etc... This might be more reliable than the KTM for ownership issues I'm guessing.

Suzuki presently have 4yrs 0% interest on selected 2-wheel machinery -- cool.

Only my tuppence worth input.

Regards;

Have had a Crosstourer DCT for 7yr. Had considered Super10 and initially the other two. (GS's and KTM's also) Super10 lost because it needed a ton of stuff/money/fixes chucked at it to make it half-way decent and is a fkn mess. Was way overpriced too.

Wanted comfy fast, easy, reliable, well built 2-up tourer but still fun (so no Pan's FJR's etc) Test rode a CT DCT and was blown away at the easy speed and constant acceleration. The auto-blipping on the way down into the tight corners is just an enjoyable bonus. After 7yrs I think I have used it once in "auto" (eating an ice-cream). Start and straight into manual. It boogies but does slow very well too, beautifully balanced.

Positives: Understressed engine. Sounds the good nasty with a pipe, although the airbox is nearly as loud. Roll-on shove from 1500rpm and a fat midrange, 110-115bhp on the bum dyno. A reliable shaft drive which I hardly notice. That DCT box. Finish (mine looks like new @ 30k +) Tank range. Comfort (6'2" 16st kitted) Lovely big back brake for stamping on, aided by the weight of the shaft drive for the tight twisties.

Negatives: It is heavy at a standstill. The front fork can feel a bit crashy. Shock hydraulic pre-load shat its oil after an overloaded 2up 700mile motorway thrash... but not till I took everything off... back home, replaced with a Nitron shock. Front down pipes look like they are off a 125cc. Standard wee screen is rubbish, later bikes have bigger adjustable one (I fitted Honda Touring Screen, perfect. Open lid no flies in the teeth and turbulence gone)

Even with all the new gadgety techno techno bikes on the market now there is no one bike that I can see replaces it and what it does. (Bought summit different to keep it company)

Happy shopping.

Another vote here for the Super Ten xt1200....doesn’t need any fixes to make it a two up tourer,maybe a taller screen but that’s always a personal choice.
I have done over 50,000 trouble free miles round Europe and North Africa in the last 6 years on the two I have owned and have a 3rd ordered which will arrive on the 5th of March....says it all really.

Nearly forgot I have just bought my latest Suoer10 which is brand spanking new not pre registered for £11995 and it’s the ZE model with electronic suspension so over priced I don’t think so lol.
