And there's another one

https://www.superbike.co.uk/article/nor ... t-part-two

SG is reported as having stolen a bike off his major investor and spend the proceeds on a kitchen.

I've known some 'colourful businessmen' but this guy is in a class of his own.

Oh dear.
The more this goes on, the more chance he will probably get away with it.

well, he fooled the government into paying for the construction of an 'engineering college' (which supposedly became where he kept his Aston Martins) so presumably there will be pressure not to wash the laundry in public.

What annoyed the hell out of me was him saying “.....I have lost everything....”
1. Who cares?
2. I bet he hasn’t. I expect there is a safety fund tucked away somewhere.
3. What about the innocent real people who are suffering from his actions?.

The more I look at this, the less it looked like the work of a criminal mastermind, the more it looks like an outstanding salesman operating so far out of his depth it's extraordinary, while finding enough people who really want it to be true (leading to a serious outbreak of gullibility) that allowed him to continue to hold up his house of cards with their money.
I suspect he thought he could get it up and running and sold off sharpish make a few bob quick but when he couldn't he just started to believe his own publicity and eventually couldn't keep all the plates spinning.
Who spotted the time they couldn't race when they turned up with 1200cc bikes for a class limited to 1000cc. That's not even a schoolboy error.
I'd be amazed if he didn't squirrel away a few bob and goes on to live a comfortable life. Just unravelling the number of Companies he owned and their involvement will be a mission.
I suspect also he is of the personality type that cannot see he's done anything wrong and the rules didn't apply to him.
Sadly I also suspect he'll be back in the papers years after this is resolved.

Just found something out today...

If you wanted a Norton, you had to place a substantial cash deposit with your dealer, who then had to pay the deposit to Norton...you then had to wait for years while they built your bike.

The customer's contract was with the dealer, and the customers who paid deposits and didn't get the bikes can claim the cash back from the dealers, while the dealers can't claim the cash back from Norton because it's in administration.

Norton apparently got £5 million in Government grants. They had an order book worth between £3m - £5m, and had taken deposits accordingly.

I think it's time the fraud squad felt Mr Garner's collar.

And the MCN reporters who gushingly and unquestioningly hung on Garner's every word should be ashamed of themselves. Norton didn't buy any advertising, so why did Garner get a free ride?

It was sociopath, the PC term for psychopath. No empathy or concern for others, only for themselves.

You could say he was determined to enjoy the fruits of a successful business, without having an actual successful business.
