2014/15 Tiger XCX 800
Hi guys and gals
well I hope in the next 3 to 4 months I will be searching for and getting a tiger XCX800, looking at my finances I can just about afford a 2015 XCX at around the 5/6k mark at a squeeze, and after all the bikes me and my wife have trialled that is definitely the one for us, we have tried, tiger 1050, big tenere, GS, XR, Versyus, and Vstrom but overall we love the XCX and XRX 800s they just feel right for us, enough guts to get about easily, cruise at a decent speed on the motorway if we need, tackle country roads, gravel and forest tracks and carry what we need as well as being comfy.
Anyways I have read lots of reviews but better coming from people who have lived with and own them to glean your information from …… so has anyone had one? and what did you think
regards Phil

Re: 2014/15 Tiger XCX 800
I've got a 2013 800XC.
Great bike though I've swapped the 21" front wheel for the 19" tubeless type.
If you don't do your own servicing be prepared to shell out big style. I do my own and forfeited the warranty to do so. Nothing has gone wrong yet though I've only covered 17,000 miles.

Thankyou Billy, as it goes yes I too service my own as most warrantees aint worth the paper they are written on especially for second hand bikes, i'll probably be buying in a private sale anyways. cheers for that mate much appreciated.

Re: 2014/15 Tiger XCX 800
I've owned and loved two Triumph Tiger 800s: the first, an XC model, was bought in March 2011 when they were first released. I owned it for just under five years and covered just over 26,000 miles on it. The only issue it had was a (well known) starter motor failure which was sorted by Triumph even though it was over a year out of the warranty period.
On Christmas Eve 2015, I saw an ex-demonstrator XCx for sale at my local dealer for a knock-down price so I did a trade-in and picked up the bike in early January 2016. Another superb bike that was an improvement over the earlier model with the addition of WP suspension, rider modes and cruise control. I covered around 24,000 miles on this bike including a 10-day, 5,000-mile trip up to Nordkapp and back round the other side of the Baltic Sea.
Two-up riding will not phase the Tiger 800: I've done many a tour with a pillion and full 3-piece luggage and it copes without issues.
As others have said, servicing can be costly if you use a Triumph dealer... but you don't have to. I always used another company who charged around half of what a registered Triumph service would be. If you're looking at a 2015 model, you don't even need to think about the warranty as it's only 2 years. Using an independent or other marque dealers for servicing doesn't automatically void the warranty anyway.
I love these bikes and will get another in the future, however, for what I am currently planning (RTW), the Tiger was just too big and a CRF250 Rally has taken its place.
Both of my Tigers during the part-exchange.

I'm on my second set and are good in the rain on tarmac.
Some people on the Tiger forum moan about the front brakes not being up to the job, but to be honest they talk out of their arses as they can stop you pretty quickly two up from speed.

Re: 2014/15 Tiger XCX 800
Crap for mileage I suppose but it's grip i'm after.
At 10,500 miles I fitted a set and at 14,938 miles fitted a new rear. At 17,000 now and probably in another 1000 will need a new set.
All riding is two up, so 8-ish out of a front and 4½-ish from the rear. I'm not a throttle jockey, it could be worse.

Guys
thanks so much for some brilliant replies really appreciated and really cant wait to get one, I know people take what the media jockeys say as their own thoughts but forget they will never ride as hard or as good as these media jockeys as that's what they do for a living
great stuff guys yes 2015 model if I can for the wp suspension and fly by wire controls too

Phil

Re: 2014/15 Tiger XCX 800
What is the 800 like for sustained high (ish) speed cruising? Say, 85 mph. Is it buzzy or does it cope well?
Suzuki GSX-S1000F...the KTM 450 EXC-R has gone

On my 5,000-mile trip to Nordkapp, I rode from Poland to Holland in one day with a detour up to Berlin for lunch... I was cruising at around 90 mph for the majority of the time on the open motorways with no buzzing or vibes at all. The triple engine is extremely smooth.
I couldn't have sustained that kind of riding without the cruise control!
