You want a bike for road use only. Why not choose a proper road bike? Oh, I almost forgot, the CRF1000 is a road bike dressed up to look like an off-road bike but with a 21" front wheel to compromise it's on-road handling credentials!
May be he likes the look of it, I mean why would you buy a bike you didn't like the look of. May be he likes the adventure style, and anyway, what exactly is a "proper road bike" and who decides it is.

You can get a 1200 crosstourer for same money.. Or a fire-breathing 1190ktm..just test them all and see what makes you smile most... Knowing you it'll be orange..

All my mates that came from sports bikes (age related change of style :D ) went for either a Ducati or KTM with a 19” front wheel - they only ride on the road.
They are all very happy with their choices.
KTM 1050 represents good value to me - although I will stick to GS for my big bike for now.
Good luck with your choice.

I suspect that the vast majority of ATs never leave the tarmac, at least not intentionally, the same is true for most large ‘Adventure’ bikes. Basically these bikes make good all rounders, much better than sports bikes and with modern engines and suspension more than capable of providing all the on road performance most riders need. If it is what floats your boat go for it.
Cheers

A Super Tenere could be an option, I bought a prereg one in March....it has almost 12k miles on it now. The engine is super smooth and has lots of character.

Adventure bikes on the road make a load of sence. Comfortable, nice and tall to see over cars, able to bounce over curbs and can handle the broken roads better than street bikes.

This.

When I'm commuting into London, I much prefer my GS over my previous bikes (Diversion 600, Pan 1100) - the seating position allows me to see further and is great for filtering. I do use mine on lanes occasionally, but even if I didn't, I feel it's a far more practical bike for moving through traffic in an urban environment than any of the sports bikes I'm normally stuck behind.

Plus - it' looks fecking awesome!

Yep. That's been my thinking too. I just want one with a bit of 'fizz' to satisfy my red mist moments...
