Not as polished as the Honda but has more grunt, and I find it better off-road whilst is still has a manageable seat height. A bit hefty but it's a big, old lump in that frame.

It's fun and useable on the road, and has long service intervals. All very old school but the DR350 engine is great and just like the trail bikes I grew up with years ago, rather than the current crop of lofty models which are just all too tall and quick for me.
yep .. that is the appeal to me, too.

If I recall, the Cota is kick start only and has no key. Also, it's quite low geared and with a very small tank capacity, so probably poorer than the Alp on the road: the footpegs and lever positioning are straight off the trials bike and so are quite widely spaced and take some getting used to. I have two friends with Freerides but they both swapped them for X-Trainers, which they much preferred.

If Honda put the concept CT125 into production, that might fit the bill:

Kickstart is fine
It's easy to kick over
I can do mine by hand

From my time in South Wales TRF I recall 2 or 3 people getting Freerides when they first came out, and having all kinds of problems with them (everything from brakes to airfilters) plus poor range. I think they all got moved on quite quickly.

Newer models may be better

The 200 Alp is the one that seems to get used in LDTs, rather than the 350.

But if you are looking to use it on the road as well, rather than trailer it, the 350 would be far better.

I like the 4 R: just a little too impractical and restrictive on the road for my time of riding, compared to the Alp. Nicely made though.
