BMW K75s

Post by yodagoat »

I've got myself a new bike! A BMW K75. I was going to fix it up and punt it on but I think I'm going to keep it for a bit.
Photos and more drivel on my blog as always here.

Does anyone else ride one? They've got a good reputation for reliability but is there anything I should look out for except greasing the splines when I change tyres? Has anyone used them on a long trip?

Cheers,

Mike

I have 4 Ks on the road, K100LT K100RS K100LT and K1100LT.

I have used them all on long trips and they are really made for them.

Technically they are great and very reliable with brilliant parts availability.

Greasing splines is a must...

Tyre pressures depend on tyres but 38/42 seems to work best for me.

There are a number of good Facebook groups and also a very good K100 [includes K75] forum.

I have always put a new clutch cable in any K I got, also remember to lubricate the cable nipple in the handlebar lever every week

You want winter adventure check this one out.

A meeting of K bike owners in Spain Alicante 3-7 March 2020.

I am going down to it with another K owner from Ireland. You are in Scotland so you could come across to Larne, down east coast to Rosslare and ferry to France or Santander. Or join some UK owners going Plymouth to Santander as they already have cabins booked on that route. I am planning to take a 1983 K100RS but planning to leave it down there for a while as we are offered extended storage if we want it. Fly back from Malaga or Alicante.

Details are in the link and its not an expensive meet up with the all in package.

Thanks for the invitation! Unfortunately there's a high chance I'll be moving house around March or April so I'll have to pas this time.
Thanks for the tips too.

I think the K75 is probably the best of the K bricks. I’ve never owned one but ridden them on many occasions - I often had one as a courtesy bike when my K100RS was in for a service. I currently have a K1100LT which is a bit of a tank but a great winter tourer.

I’ve probably done about 30k on a k75s in the 90’s. it was the most maintenance free bike I’ve ever owned apart from the usual lubricants etc. 25mph to 120mph in fifth gear, good early fuel injection , comfortable and 60 to 70 mpg. In my opinion a far better bike than the big bricks 👍

Not the "s" version but had the standard one from new. In all owned it for 10 years. Fugal, Comfortable, vibe free and reliable. I had fitted the lowered seat and RT bars and BMW K75 screen. Only let me down once, the shaft UJ gave up the ghost. Totally covered in 10 years was 75000 miles. Only sold it for a change of scenery. Replaced with a Goldwing but never jelled with it.

I've had two K75Ss--great bikes--but the longish wheelbase means they don't turn too quickly. Both mine were non ABS--the best sort. The only problem I had was in France after a spirited pass climb when I lost all drive---I didn't know about spline greasing, which is really very easy--had to get it recovered and needed a new driveshaft and bevel drive----splines shot on both. Despite that I would buy another one but they are fetching very good money these days.

Only problems I was aware of was rear drive oil seals that tend to fail and dodgy( expensive) ABS modules.
