I don’t usually read MCN but this caught my eye this morning so I grabbed a copy.
I haven't read it yet and will take their view with a pinch of salt but they conclude the T7 with a four star rating as apposed to three star for the KTM mainly based the Yam’s affordability and level of performance more than adequate for the average Joe.

I suspect that, for once, MCN's verdict is probably correct in the context of their test criteria.....but then I'm a great Yamaha fan and totally biased Undoubtedly the Yam is a lot prettier!

MCN's opinion is often slanted towards who spends most £££s advertising.
The Yam has taken years to bring to market and whilst cheap repeats all the previous mistakes - overweight and under powered.
Will be ok if you want an off road styled commuter but as a trail/adventure bike - no.
The KTM has suspect styling, odd ergos but real off road performance, however the cost?
Neither for me.

That depends entirely what you want it for (the KTM is pretty much the same weight). It will suit me as a bullet-proof 'all roads' travel bike. Just observe what Spencer Conway achieved on his 'overweight and underpowered' Ten 660, much the same weight and far less power. No mistakes as far as I'm concerned but I agree, if I'm doing proper off-road stuff a proper lightweight trail bike would be far better. No right and no wrong here, it's whatever floats your boat and suits your purposeCrossrutted wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2019 3:29 pm MCN's opinion is often slanted towards who spends most £££s advertising.

If you think it's under powered then you're looking at the wrong bike. I've went from 125bhp to 94bhp and if I then get a ten 700 it'll be down to 72bhp and at no time has the power been an issue.

if you are serious about offroad--and speed, then look no further than the current Dakar formula for size power and weight. I know you won't get factory power over the counter but it proves the point--they are NOT slow. Gone are the days of of over 1000 cc monstrosities that are way overweight and over complex--ok for road touring--but there are better bikes for that that are genuine road tourers. The Yam is heading in the right direction on size and weight--and price!!--basically 70 bhp in a light bike is enough for any person.

KTM 690 Enduro... Shave off another 50 kg, better suspension as well.
